About Mac VPN Lab

We test VPNs the way real users live with them — on real Macs and PCs, over months, not minutes.

Mac VPN Lab was started because we got tired of VPN "reviews" that read like press releases. You know the kind: stock photos, a generic speed number with no test setup, and a five-star verdict for whoever pays the highest commission.

We're different in one specific way: we actually use this stuff, every day.

Who's behind this site

I'm [Name], a heavy VPN user who's been running VPN clients daily since 2019 — across Apple Silicon Macs (M1 through M-series) and Windows machines. My setup isn't a lab bench; it's the same MacBook Air you'd buy, on the same home fiber connection you'd have, used for real work: remote development over SSH, video calls, streaming, and yes — managing sensitive logins over coffee-shop Wi-Fi.

I also run advanced proxy tooling (Clash-based rule routing, custom DNS setups), which means I know what happens under a VPN client's glossy UI. When a review says "fast," I want to know: fast at what layer, leaking what, draining which battery.

How we test

Every VPN recommendation on this site comes from hands-on testing:

without the VPN active.

30–90 days of daily use, including the ugly parts — random disconnects, failed reconnections after sleep, battery drain you only notice in week 3.

HWiNFO), and stability logs. Where we can't measure something reliably, we say so instead of inventing a score.

Each article states its test conditions up front — hardware, OS version, test period, and method — so you can judge the data for yourself.

What we will and won't do

❌ We won't:

Why "Mac" VPN Lab?

Because Mac VPN users are systematically underserved. Most VPN reviews test on Windows and say "it works on Mac too." That's how you end up with clients that silently drain 15% of your battery, break after macOS updates, or leak IPv6 because the vendor never bothered with Apple's Network Extension API properly.

We test Mac first. Windows coverage exists too — but Mac is the headline.
